Cole Falloway & Blake Brown: The Duel (Video)

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series displayed the bright future of the sport last weekend. Two young stars — Blake Brown (99) and Cole Falloway (66) — dueled for the lead and put on show at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Kentucky.

Blake Brown, 21, of Corbin, Kentucky, started the race tied for the series’ points lead with Brandon Kinzer, of Lexington, Ky. Brown has two wins so far this year on the Iron-Man circuit. His last victory came at the race prior, at Wartburg Speedway in Tennessee. (See “Blake Brown: Hard-Fought Victory at Wartburg (Video).”)

Cole Falloway, 17, of Owensboro, Kentucky, does not follow the Iron-Man schedule, but dropped in on the Lake Cumberland event.

Brown started the feature from the front and set the pace. Falloway followed his trail, showing the patience of a much more seasoned veteran. In the closing laps, when Brown encountered traffic, Falloway made his move, and led the most important lap of all, the one where the checkers wave.

Brown followed Falloway across the line to finish in second. Jeff Hamby, of Lancing, Tennessee, placed third.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series hosts a doubleheader weekend next. They visit Ponderosa Speedway on Friday, September 18, and then return to Lake Cumberland on Saturday, September 19. Brown hopes to stay up front in the championship battle, where he currently holds a 10-point lead over second-place Kinzer.
