Eleven years, that’s how long Greg Peck has went without winning at Park Jefferson International Speedway. However, he finally cracked victory lane this past Friday. It came after Peck had to work his way from a flat tire he incurred during the first caution of the feature.
After heading to the pits to have his tire changed, he restarted at the tail of the 15-car field.
“At that point, I was hoping just to maintain my point lead over Jason Ward,” said Peck “Then I drove right up there — from worst to first — that added to my excitement.”
Don’t mistake Peck as a strange to victory lane, though. He won the track’s 2000 modified championship, moved into modifieds and then late models.
“I hit the pause button, racing less as my three daughters participated in sports,” Peck said. “They are good athletes — participating in soccer and basketball. It was more of a priority for me to see them play — it was something I did not want to miss, so I missed a lot of nights of racing from 2006-2024.”
After his youngest daughter graduated high school, Peck picked up a stock car.
“I found stock cars a lot of fun to race,” said Peck. “They have decent horsepower and not a lot of suspension components to worry about. Last week I changed the rear trailing arm positions, adjusted the load numbers, and it all came together.”
When Greg Peck reached victory lane, you could see what the win meant to him.
“Finally, a win,” Peck said. “What a relief it was to see the checkered flag. I’ve been racing my stock car hard for the past two years, and I finally got it handled.”
