The Zamp RZ-70E Switch racing helmet from RaceDay Safety allows racers to add only the advanced features they want to an eye-catching helmet. This allows drivers to save money so they can put those funds toward other things they need, such as tires.
“It’s a great helmet, just by itself, without the options,” said Kevin Shaw, of RaceDay Safety. “But, it has the capability for many easy add-ons.”
Have a RaceCeiver or a one-way radio? Swap out the factory cap on the left or right-side chin bar with one that accommodates the device. The holder that comes with your RaceCeiver attaches to the new cap and the earpiece wire routes into the chin bar. $9.95 add-on.
If you use two-way radios, the helmet’s communication channels in the chin bar allows for easy installation of the Zamp communication kit. The kit includes a noise-canceling boom microphone that works with all the popular four-wire racing radios. Heat seal connector sleeves come included. You can install the kit yourself or contact RaceDay Safety to have Zamp set it up. $65.95 add-on.
For those who dislike wearing ear plugs for communications, Zamp offers ear cup speakers, which install into the built-in pockets of the helmet. $33.25 add-on.
Want to stay hydrated? The Zamp Hydration kit offers 4-½ feet of hose, a quick disconnect, and a bite valve to make that happen. Premade channels in the chin bar’s foam make installation a cinch or you can contact RaceDay Safety to have Zamp install it. $34.95 add-on.
If you enjoy connecting your helmet to forced air, add a top forced air nozzle. The gloss-black, low-profile forced air adapter installs to the top of the helmet with the removal of four plugs and the addition of four screws. $42.95 add-on.
Regardless of the add-ons, the Zamp RZ-70E helmet comes with several features standard. Full, 360-degree air channeling allows cool air into the helmet and warm air to exit it. A Z-20 Series clear shield, with tensioning tear-off posts, works with Zamp laminated tear-offs or Ultra Shield Race Products 1256 tear-offs. The factory-installed M6 inserts allow for head-and-neck restraint hardware. The helmet is Snell SA2020 and FIA 8859-2015 approved.
The Zamp RZ-70E helmet comes in a variety of color schemes. The helmet as pictured (blue/light blue) also features yellow/orange and gray-light gray versions for $431.96.
“The other thing that’s great about the helmet are the graphics,” Shaw said. “People get frustrated when helmet painters are months out [in getting jobs done] — and it’s expensive, too.”
RaceDay Safety also sells one-color versions in white, black, and matte gray for $411.26.
All helmets come with free shipping.
