In their never-ending quest to find more power, Mullins Race Engines came across Fytron Software. Sure, it may not directly add horsepower on the dyno, but it saves Mullins Race Engines time and money. With that, they can focus more of their efforts on building engines that power their customers to victory lane.
“There’s no other software specifically designed for somebody in this business,” said Chad Mullins, of Mullins Race Engines. “I used to use software from AERA, and that was the same kind of deal, but it got old and the newer computers wouldn’t communicate with it. I was using it since 2007. If I created my own software, I would have to design it from ground zero — that’s tough.”
Mullins operates a busy engine shop. They have 10 employees and in December Mullins said they had 160 to 170 engines being worked on. The company does not have the time to endure a hiccup from any aspect of their business. That’s where Fytron Software shines.
“I needed strength in the software for parts inventory and billing on labor,” Mullins said. “With QuickBooks, all your parts were in this big ole can of soup. I don’t want to go through 10 million part numbers and start billing something.
“As far as labor, they have an established labor chart in the software. So, you can type in ‘deck block,’ and it’s going to come up with some options to choose from. You can easily modify their baseline to suit your needs.”
As much as the software caters to the engine-building business, Fytron Software recognizes that every company has needs specific to them. That’s where they outperform others, according to Mullins.
“We brought to Fytron Software what we liked about the old software we used and asked them if they could make those changes to theirs — and that’s what they did,” said Mullins. “If you need the software to do something, email them cats and they’re working on it. They’re really strong in making the software do what you need it to do.”
