Brycen Fleming: How Racing Keeps Drawing Him In

There’s just something about this sport that keeps Brycen Fleming coming back. And this weekend, he’ll head to Sugar Creek Raceway for its $4,000-to-win Dirt Rich TV American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products event.

Fleming became hooked on the sport in one of the unlikeliest places. Iraq, when he served in the U.S. Army.

“We could get just enough internet that if we started a YouTube video, pause it for 30 minutes, let it buffer, we can get about 5 minutes into the video,” Fleming, of Ninety Six, South Carolina, said. “He found Hunt The Front on YouTube. We started watching racing videos and talking about how we would get into it.”

After getting discharged, Fleming found a street stock and started racing. Then he bought a late model. Admittedly, Fleming intended to sell his equipment due to running two businesses, building a new house and having a family. He asked his friend and fellow American All-Star Series driver Keaton Smith if he wanted to buy it. Smith responded a week later.

“He said bring it to the shop,” said Fleming. “The next thing I know, we’re putting it together to race the All-Stars.”

The two pooled their teams together so they could save time preparing their cars, giving valuable hours back to the time-strapped Fleming.

Brycen Fleming concedes he’s got a lot to learn racing late models. This year’s schedule consisted of tracks he’s never before seen, except if they were a return visit on the 2025 docket.

The Dirt Rich TV American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products event at Sugar Creek Raceway on August 9 is yet another new track for Fleming. However, he hopes his experience at nearby tracks on the Georgia-South Carolina border serves him well. And, of course, if he struggles, Fleming can count on his friend Keaton Smith, among others, to keep him going at this racing thing.
