Colin Cox Wins Two Races in the Same Day

Colin Cox Wins Two Races in the Same Day

When you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll, just ask sportsman modified driver Colin Cox. He won two features on Saturday, April 19.

The first came just after midnight at Big Diamond Speedway, where the night started on Friday. Cox then just got four hours of sleep and prepared for his next night of racing at Grandview Speedway. After the sun set, he emerged with his second win of the day.

“I won one race last season,” said Cox, of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. “To win two in one day at the start of the new season is really special.”

After taking the checkered flag at Grandview, Cox’s crew member Jason Hamilton ran from the pits to victory lane with photo prop: a broom from the team’s trailer.

“I realized what he was doing and what it meant, and it was pretty funny,” Cox said. “When winning two in one day finally settled in, we had a lot of fun with it.”

Cox started on the pole of the 22-car main event at Big Diamond Speedway.

“I was challenged on the double-file restarts by Trevor Bixler,” said Cox. “I decided the bottom was faster, so I held on to the bottom lane and stayed there. Trevor was on the outside but couldn’t get by.”

Cox didn’t win the two races in one day with the same car. He runs a 2018 Bicknell at Big Diamond and a 2024 Bicknell for Grandview.

“The setup is similar for both tracks,” Cox said. “Grandview has a slightly different gear ratio than Big Diamond.”

At Grandview, Colin Cox started seventh, and had to chase down the leader, Adrianna Delliponti.

“She checked out for the lead, far ahead of the pack,” said Cox. “I was hoping for a caution so I could catch her. That came on lap 13.”

Cox then battled Delliponti for the lead, throwing a slider in the third turn to assume the top spot and kept it to the end of the feature for the win. He credited running more races prior to the season starting in Pennsylvania. Cox had raced the Short Track Super Series sportsman events at Lake View Motor Speedway and All-Tech Raceway, as well as races at Port Royal Speedway and Bridgeport Motorsports Park. His best 2025 finish prior to this past weekend? An eighth.

“Starting the season with more seat time made all the difference this season,” Cox said. “That and building a good notebook with setup information from last season.”
