Located an hour west of Las Vegas, Pahrump Valley Speedway is up for sale. It was a favorite for Levi Kiefer, who raced in several classes there for more than 20 years.
“[It’s] a cool, small, tight [oval, with an], always dry-slick surface,” said Kiefer, of Bakersfield, California. It was a successful track back in its day. A promoter came in that tried to make a living for himself and his family — that did not work out. The pay structure suffered. Car counts went down. Fans stopped coming because there were no cars.”
The family of the late Ray “The Stormin’ Mormon” Wulfenstein teamed up with Kiefer and Leland Hibdon to put on the Stormin’ Mormon Showdown annual event. Pahrump Valley Speedway hosted it from 2017 to 2019. It drew large crowds and car counts, according to Kiefer, but the event did not continue after the pandemic hit in 2020.
Now the ¼-mile dirt track is ready to be promoted by someone new. The track resides on industrial, mixed-use zoned land. The property consists of four lots that when combined equal 20.06 acres. The listing states that the buyer “must verify zoning and water availability.” It also specifies that a well and well tanks are located on the grounds.
The track comes with all the outbuildings as well as equipment, vehicles, trucks, and earth-grooming vehicles needed to run the racing facility. Realtor Scott Smith, of Freedom House Property Management, is offering Pahrump Valley Speedway and the land it’s on for $975,000, which is under $50,000 per acre.
An administrative assistant to Smith at the realtor’s office said he has stated, “This is a remarkable opportunity for commercial and industrial endeavors. The speedway is icing on the cake. The new owner could consider motorcycle racing, monster trucks, quad racing and concerts.”
