Zach and Lacey Sise tied the knot on May 7. Together, the newlyweds have campaigned a dirt late model for the Dirt2Media American All-Star Series presented by PPM Racing Products.
“Through the week I have my dad and my uncle Freddy — [Lacey] helps me and makes me and my uncle Freddy dinner most nights,” said Zach, of Knoxville, Tennessee. “When we travel [to races], it’s just me and her.”
Lacey, who grew up in a racing family, with her brother Addison Cardwell and father Jason Cardwell racing late models, knows her way around a race car.
“She cuts tires, sipes tires, [does] maintenance — everything,” Zach said. “There’s pretty much nothing that she can’t do.”
Today’s dirt late model scene places a huge demand on teams to bring their A game. Many teams have several crew members helping. The increased competition level doesn’t seem to strain the relationship between Zach and Lacey Sise.
“It doesn’t hurt by any means,” said Zach about how racing affects his relationship with Lacey. “She might get annoyed with me at times because I’m stuck in the garage too late. But it’s something good for both of us to do every weekend — and we have a blast doing it.”
Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Kentucky, has been a good place to Zach and Lacey Sise. They have won two of three American All-Star Series events this year there. The newlyweds intend to go for three for four when they return to Lake Cumberland Speedway this weekend. The Dirt2Media American All-Star Series presented by PPM Racing Products recently added the event to its schedule after Volunteer Speedway canceled its previously scheduled touring race. While the race at Lake Cumberland Speedway won’t pay points, it will pay $10,000 to the winner. For Zach and Lacey, the $10,000 would make for a great wedding gift.
