Brad Amerson: How He and Friends Haul

How did Brad Amerson (22) and his friends Cody Taylor (52), Mitchell McNure (68), and Preston Beckham (2) haul their cars to Clarksville Speedway in Tennessee? With Brad’s uncle’s 35-foot trailer. They loaded it with four Sharp mini late models and traveled nine hours.

“The trailer would only hold three cars, so we started lifting them up and setting them on rims so the nose was under the rear of each car,” said Amerson, of Portal, Georgia. “After having about three feet left, we slid out the ramps and got the fourth car on trailer and rear tires on ramps. Thankfully, the ramps were solid and we strapped everything down secure.”

Taylor admittedly first questioned Amerson’s rig.

“The four-car carrier to Tennessee over the weekend was a little sketchy at first,” Taylor, of Savannah, Georgia, said. “The cars measure a little over 12 feet per car, and the trailer was only 35 feet. It took a little bit of redneck ingenuity, but we made it work.”

After making their way to Tennessee early Saturday morning, the four men napped in the parking lot of a gas station … on pool floats under their trailer. They intended to race at Crossville Speedway, but the track cancelled their show. So, they continued three hours further into Tennessee to race at Clarksville Speedway.

“We were not prepared for that small of a track,” said Amerson. “All of our parts and gears were back home in Georgia.”

They made do, though. Mitchell McNure finished first, Brad Amerson second, and Cody Taylor third. Preston Beckham wrecked and did not finish the feature.

All in all, the four racers felt their adventure was worth it.

“Can’t go wrong with good friends and racing,” Taylor said. “That’s what I call making dang good memories.”

McNure, of Statesboro, Georgia, got to celebrate his win with his friends.

“The best part of the trip was beating the guy I’ve been trying to beat for three years,” said McNure, referencing Amerson.
