Heidi Meverden & Logan Fleischman: Betrothed Racers

Heidi Meverden met her fiancé Logan Fleischman at Shawano Speedway in Wisconsin. Both attended the races — Heidi as a spectator and Logan as a rookie IMCA sport mod driver. Today they are engaged and race one another in the B-modified class at Tomahawk Speedway in Wisconsin.

“I saw that we lived in the same area,” Heidi, of Mattoon, Wisconsin, said of when she first encountered Logan. “That was it — I knew nothing more about him.”

Heidi took to Facebook to find out more about Logan. She struck up a conversation with him.

“He invited me to his race shop,” said Heidi, who works for an artisan cheese maker. “Our common interest brought us together.”

Soon after they started dating, Heidi expressed interest in wanting to race. Logan helped her with a sport compact car she purchased.

“Logan explained setups to me, how my car is supposed to feel, and what is needed to change to make it perform the way it should,” Heidi said. “I am at the point where I can explain what the setup needs for adjustments.”

Heidi advanced to sport mods/B-modifieds in 2017. She races against Logan regularly at Tomahawk Speedway.

“When you are racing with your partner, you race clean,” Logan, a maintenance company owner, said. “It gets very competitive between us — whether it’s a board game or racing — but I would never take her out of a race.”

Logan has 14 sport mod wins to his credit and the 2020 B-modified championship at Tomahawk Speedway. Heidi came close to her first win on July 31, finishing second to her fiancé, despite a slipping clutch that failed right after crossing the start-finish line.

“She is faster every week and close to winning,” said Logan. “I know she will win soon.”

Heidi Meverden and Logan Fleischman had their first date at Shawano Speedway eight years ago. The two plan to have their wedding at the end of the 2022 season.

“It is awesome that we share the same passion for racing,” Heidi said. “We have a common goal to work together on — being better racers.”
