Brooke Fluckiger broke into victory lane on an apropos night. She scored her first IMCA hobby stock victory on ladies’ night last Thursday at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Nebraska.
“There are no words to describe the win,” Fluckiger, 28, of Columbus, Nebraska, said. “It was my dream since I started in the division three years ago. I couldn’t contain my excitement.”
Fluckiger recited her well-rehearsed victory lane speech to the cheers of the crowd. Many fans have followed her since she began racing in the IMCA sport compact class in 2011. While racing in that division, she won the IMCA Lady Eagle national points title in 2017. Fluckiger also grabbed the IMCA Nebraska state crown for the sport compacts and championships at U.S. 30 Speedway and Boone County Raceway in Albion, Nebraska.
“There are quite a few young women who are just as excited about my first win in a hobby stock as I am,” said Fluckiger. “I always take time after the races to talk to the young fans — girls and boys — and answer their questions. I let them sit in my car.”
During the day, Fluckiger works as an LPN at a family medical practice. Her boyfriend, Taylor Huss, who also races hobby stocks, lives two hours away in Fairbury, Nebraska. He serves as Fluckiger’s crew on Thursdays at U.S. 30 Speedway.
“I return the favor [by crewing for Taylor] on Friday night, when he races at Nebraska’s Beatrice Speedway, and Saturday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction,” Fluckiger said.
With her first hobby stock win under her belt, Brooke Fluckiger said she’s ready to add a few more trophies to the mantel.
“I’ll just keep on racing — I’m looking for win number two,” said Fluckiger said. “Winning on ladies’ night was not only rewarding, it is a win that I will never forget.”
