New Year’s Day came in with a bang for sport mod driver Scott Foster. The incident occurred in the first turn of the first lap of the feature at the Stockton Dirt Track in California.
“The car in front of me spun, and I clipped his left-front tire with my right-front tire,” Foster, of Oakley, California, said. “Then, the car in back of me hit me and my car dug into the track and flipped over. I went over one time. There was a hard slam, roof-side down, onto the track.”
After the track crew examined him, Foster started to not feel well.
“I started nodding off, and I didn’t remember parts of the crash,” said Foster. “I called my health provider’s advice nurse. We concluded that I had a concussion and I would have to rest.”
Foster sat in a ButlerBuilt full-containment seat, with a five-point belt system from Hooker Harness. He wore a HANS device with an Arai helmet.
His Razor Chassis by Roth car, which was raced for the first time three months ago, received damage to its front suspension, center link, and body.
Scott Foster had planned to race the next day at California’s Antioch Speedway, but the crash nixed his plans. Nevertheless, he looks forward to his next time behind the wheel.
“I’m a late bloomer — driving for the first time this past season at 32 years old,” Foster said. “My grandfather, Dave Ellis, and my dad, Glen, were racers. My wife, Jessica, and I are modified car owners. I came to the realization that I would like to try driving.
“I’m learning about the car. It’s been tough starting to race so late. A year ago, I knew nothing. Our modified driver, Kellen Chadwick, and our friends in the racing community have offered us so much help and advice.”
