Joey Love: His Return Back to Racing After a Decade Away

Late model racer Joey Love walked away from the sport in 2008. More than a decade later, he stepped back into a race car, and he’s still seeking his first win since his return. In his quest to return to victory lane, his next stop will take him to Virginia’s Natural Bridge Speedway on Saturday, October 26, with a $10,000-to-win American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products feature.

During the early 2000s, Love said he frequently contended for wins at tracks such as Potomac Speedway in Maryland and Virginia Motor Speedway. However, since his return in 2019, he has yet to earn a victory.

“When we came back, you have stacked springs, spring smashing, coil-binding, and bump stops — all this stuff you never heard of 10 years prior,” said Love. “It threw us for a loop. It was if we had never raced before because it changed so much.”

The challenge didn’t deter Love, though. In fact, he’s competed against some of the toughest in the sport. Love started the season at Volusia Speedway Park during Florida Speedweeks. He has also competed in American All-Star Series events near his hometown of La Plata, Maryland. To get to Natural Bridge Speedway, Love has to haul through Washington, D.C. However, Love feels the three-and-a-half to four-hour drive is worth it.

“It’s a bit of a haul, but that place races good and always puts on a good show,” Love said of Natural Bridge Speedway. “And the American All-Stars have been doing pretty good payouts. It makes the haul worth it.”

You can find Joey Love and many great racers heading to Natural Bridge Speedway on Saturday, October 26, for an event featuring the American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products. They’re expecting a great field of cars, with a $10,000-to-win purse and $400 to start.

“We have a new car from BMF,” said Love of the car he debuted this season during Speedweeks. “It’s definitely able to win races. We just got to put a complete night together, and that’s going to come soon.”
