If you’re a modified racer (A- or B-mod), you might want to circle June 26-28, 2025, on your calendar for the Southern Sizzler: No Fender Nationals. The B-mods race for $10,000 to win and the A-mods for $3,000. North Alabama Speedway hosts the big-paying event.
“There’s just not a lot of opportunities for modified racers [in this area] to race for more than $400 to $600, unless it’s one of our Tri-State series races,” said Southern Sizzler and Tri-State Open Wheel Modified Series promoter Cale Finley. “We [in the Tri-State series] race for $3,000 on a normal basis, but we only race eight to 10 races year. That’s not enough money to travel three or four hours. We’re trying to put this together where guys from all over the country will want to come.”
Over the years, North Alabama Speedway has seen promoters come and go, and periods of dormancy in between. In the past, the track has hosted series such as the World of Outlaws Late Models. Finley said the track’s current promoters, the Wallace family, seek to put the storied track back on the map.
“They’re doing stuff to improve the grounds,” said Finley. “They’re putting new bleachers in, put a new flag stand in, and got new equipment — they’re doing a lot to make this better.”
As far as the Southern Sizzler, the B-modified class welcomes CRUSA modifieds, X-mods, USRA B-mods, DIRTcar pro modifieds and IMCA sport mods.
You can find the rules in the images below.
As far as A-mods, the rule set will be similar to that used by ONUM Dirt Modifieds.
The weekend starts on Thursday, June 26, where practice actually pays. It’s $1,000 for the fastest driver in both the B-modified and A-modified classes.
When you preregister for the event, you’re also automatically entered in giveaways: one for a $3000 engine refresh from Twisted Performance and Machine, another for a set of shocks from W.A.R. Shocks, and one for a carburetor. The $225 entry fee also includes the driver’s armbands for Friday and Saturday, and a transponder fee.
