Pack the Track Challenge: Paying 5 Fans $1,000 Each

Most oval-track events pay the drivers, of course, but the Pack the Track Challenge also pays select fans. Five randomly selected lucky fans will receive $1,000 each, if attendance surpasses 1,500 people. Say what? That’s how the American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products will kick off its season at I-75 Raceway outside of Sweetwater, Tennessee.

“It’s a good way to get new people to come to the track,” said Joseph Rush, series director for the American All-Star Series. “What’s better than a 5 in 1,500 chance to win a $1,000? That’s better odds than playing the lottery or scratch-off tickets.”

The event will pay that as long as attendance exceeds 1,500 people. That figure includes every paying customer there that night, from kids, to adults, to tier parking, to those in the pits.

For every 1,000 people beyond the initial 1,500, the event promoters will award an additional five randomly selected attendees $1,000 each as well.

Rush said the Pack the Track Challenge is an effort to help build the fan base for the series.

“We obviously have to have drivers, but if there are not fans there, then the track is not having a good night,” Rush said. “So, we want to make sure we get the fans there, so they get to experience what kind of shows our series puts on. Last year, the I-75 race was phenomenal — it was Mack McCarter, Cory Hedgecock, and Hayden Cardwell all battling for the lead. Cardwell ended up with his first [series] win.”

The American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products starts its points-paying season on Saturday, April 8, at I-75 Raceway outside of Sweetwater, Tennessee. The 27-race schedule has the tour visiting a total of 17 tracks, from as far south as Alabama to as far north as Indiana. The tour held its first bonus race last weekend. Ricky Weiss, of Headingley, Manitoba, Canada, won the event at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
