Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road bills itself as “The Nation’s Site of Excitement.” It accurately describes the paved, quarter-mile oval. Since 1960, some of the sport’s most accomplished drivers have found glory on Thunder Road’s high banks — but many more have left with heartache and mangled cars. They call turn four “The Widowmaker,” however, the entire frontstretch wall has been the site of hundreds of accidents over the years.
