If you’re looking for professional-grade race equipment or mementos from a legendary driver, check out the “Ultimate Garage Sale” for Brett Hearn. It’s taking place this Saturday, May 17, at his headquarters in Sussex, New Jersey.
“There will be plenty of parts for racers and plenty of memorabilia for fans,” Hearn said. “There will also be a lot of racing talk and shared memories.”
Hearn’s storied career includes 920 wins among 48 tracks in 11 states and two Canadian provinces. The majority of those victories came in modifieds (574), but he also has wins in small-block modifieds (343) and sprint cars (2). In total, he earned 94 track and series championships, including 10 Super DIRTcar Series titles. Hearn hasn’t had a race team since 2020. He currently promotes at Orange County Fair Speedway in New York.
“I spend a lot of the winter in Florida,” Hearn said. “I learned that I like the simple life. Partnering with Doug [Dulgarian] at OCFS to promote a small series and the Eastern States 200 weekend will be my focus. Promoting is enough for me to stay in the sport and be a part of it.”
Hearn has occupied the building he’s made his race headquarters since the winter of 1991-1992.
“It was a quick 33 years,” said Hearn. “The property was sold after the first of this year. The new owners have other plans for the building. Honestly, it was just the push I needed to move on. There is just so much stuff, so much to move out of that building.”
Instead of slingin’ dirt in a modified, Brett Hearn spends his time golfing, playing pickleball, and boating.
“I like having the time to golf or ride my motorcycles,” Hearn said. “At this point in life, I just want to do what I want to do, not do what I have to do.”
