Sure, Jeremy Steele is on a bit of a hot streak. He’s won four features since the end of June. However, it may be the orange color of his race cars that attracts even more attention. Regardless, he hopes to drive that bright No. 22 into victory lane this weekend at Laurens County Speedway in South Carolina for the American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products race.
Steele has raced orange cars since he competed in 602 open wheel modifieds.
“We used to have white, black, whatever colors we had,” Steele, of York, South Carolina, said. “One winter we had accumulated orange stuff. [My car owner, Kris Callahan,] likes orange. His grading business [Xcell Grading & Waterproofing] has orange in its logo. His dad, it was getting harder to see — heck, for everyone, it’s getting harder to see at some of these racetracks. He’s like, ‘Let’s do orange. You won’t never miss it.’ We went orange and it’s stuck. We’ve been orange since 2019.”
Despite being a Palmetto State native, Jeremy Steele has never raced at Laurens County Speedway. Many others haven’t either, as the track rarely runs 604 late models. He hopes that’s an advantage for him when the American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products makes its first-ever visit to the dirt oval.
“As much as I say the out-of-town guys are coming to our backyard for once, it’s almost a neutral site, because we don’t get to race there either,” said Steele. “I don’t feel like anybody has a large upper hand, which is good for me, because I haven’t been there.”
