The affable Walker Arthur loves to keep it simple when it comes to racing. It’s not uncommon to see him roll into the pits on an open trailer by himself and have his late model race on modest Bilstein ASM shocks. Yet, he wins, especially at his home track of Natural Bridge Speedway in Virginia. In fact, he won there last Saturday. That’s what the touring stars of the American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products will have to contend with this Saturday, June 15.
Arthur has a stacker trailer, sure, but that’s just for when he travels far from his Forest, Virginia, home. Instead, he prefers to use an open trailer for tracks nearby.
“It’s just so much easier,” Arthur said of using the open trailer. “It’s easier to unload and load, especially by myself. I don’t know if it’s more fun or not.”
Likewise, he said he often uses a more modest set of Bilstein ASM shocks. The KISS method — Keeping It Simple, Stupid — seems to be Arthur’s mantra. However, Arthur admitted his penchant for KISS had affected his program. He recently upgraded to a Longhorn chassis and started doing some homework.
“The last couple of years we haven’t been up to speed,” said Arthur. “You start to wonder, ‘Am I losing my touch?’ We went to work this winter and found some new technology. We’ve gotten caught up a bit.”
Walker Arthur will try for two wins, two weeks in a row this Saturday, June 15 at Natural Bridge Speedway in Virginia. There, he’ll compete against some of the finest that the American All-Star Series Presented by PPM Racing Products will bring.
