If you want to promote your own track, Monett Raceway in Missouri is now available. Its owner, Kyle Slagle, said he will entertain proposals for purchase or lease.
“The promoter who leased the track turned it back over to me — it was an amicable solution,” Slagle said. “Things changed in his life, and he could not continue to operate the track.”
Monett Raceway ran last season under the USRA banner. It opened in 1970 as a ¼-mile oval, before expanding to its current 3/8-mile configuration in 1973. Monett Raceway claims to be the longest-continuously-running track in Missouri.
“The track was successful,” said Slagle. “[The former promoter] put a lot of money into it. More than 150 loads of clay have been added to the racing surface. The grandstands, built on concrete pilings, have all-new, metal-supported wood. He started to install LED lighting. The backstretch LED lighting has been completed and the wiring is there for the rest of the track.”
The grandstand holds 2,500 people. The track has two concession buildings, with modern restrooms in the spectator area.
“We widened the gate to allow food trucks in as an option,” Slagle said of other improvements made to the track. “The pit area has a restroom building that needs a little work, but the grandstand in the pits has new metal-supported wood seating.”
The sale also comes with sheepsfoot roller in good condition as well as a grader and water truck that are “usable, but need a little TLC.”
Slagle bought the track from Randy Mooneyham in 2016. Slagle then leased it to a promoter in 2020, with an option for them to purchase it.
Monett Raceway sits on 30 acres. It resides within a development zone that contains light manufacturing, distribution centers, and a hospital. That zone borders extensive farmland.
Slagle declined to offer an asking price for purchase or lease.
“There are just too many variables [to say what the prices are],” said Slagle. “I will review all proposals that are emailed to me. There has been a lot of interest since we posted on Facebook that Monett Raceway is available. I will review and respond to offers by email.”
