Shane Clanton teamed up with Chad Smith to form SCCS Solutions, LLC, and assume control of the dirt late model chassis brand Capital Race Cars. Clanton had founded Capital Race Cars with Marshall Green.
“The main goal was to give Marshall some free time to work at his other businesses,” Clanton said. “Marshall will deal directly with me. Chad and I will be selling cars, parts, and traveling to racetracks seeking speed for our customers. Me not racing full-time will give me the time to do more testing and R&D.”
Green still owns Capital Fabrication, Inc., which will still manufacture the chassis for Capital Race Cars. In addition, Green owns a pair of dirt tracks in Georgia — Dixie Speedway in Woodstock and Rome Speedway.
“My attention has been divided between Capital and our family owned businesses,” said Green in a prepared statement. “I am excited about what the future holds for this next chapter. God has greatly blessed my efforts over the years, allowing me to experience success on many sides of this sport. This joint venture with Shane and Chad is a great step in our goal to build the Capital brand and to better serve all our customers present and future.”
Green’s mother-in-law, Martha Swims, passed away on July 16, 2022, at age 80. Swims and her husband, Mickey, had operated Cumming Dragway in addition to Dixie and Rome for more than six decades.
Green founded Capital Race Cars with Clanton 13 years ago. The chassis builder has a World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship, the series’ Chassis Builder of the Year award, and many track championships and feature wins across North America and Australia.
“I’m real excited,” Clanton said. “With Marshall fixin’ to get Dixie and Rome ready for opening, Chad and I will be at Volusia [Speedway Park in Florida]. I’m 48, Chad is 54, and Marshall is 49. We have a lot of racing years ahead of us — the future is very bright.”
