Phil Scott Goes For Third Thunder Road Title Sunday

For Immediate Release TR58-090902

Barre, VT - - Phil Scott will attempt to become the second three-time Thunder Road champion in 43 years at Sunday's New England Dodge Dealers Fall Foliage 200. Scott leads Eric Williams by 18 points, and Dave Pembroke by 35, heading into the ACT Dodge Tour event. Only Chuck Beede, a four-time "King of the Road" ('85,'92,'93 and '94), has ever won more than two Thunder Road Late Model titles.

Scott is also bidding for his first ACT Dodge Tour crown. He is the tour point leader, 69 points ahead of Canadian Patrick Laperle. Both are past winners of the Fall Foliage 200, and each has a top-5 finish in an ACT event at Thunder Road this season. Laperle was fifth in the Labor Day Classic won by Jean-Paul Cyr. Scott was fifth in the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic won by Joey Laquerre.

The 31st Fall Foliage 200, the 14th of 16 ACT Dodge Tour races, is being hosted by Thunder Road for the first time. Bobby Dragon won the inaugural at Catamount Stadium in 1972. Mark Lamberton won last year's event at Airborne Raceway. A Late Model field of more than 36 cars is expected.

Sunday's Parts Plus race card includes the 50-lap finale of the Subway Grand Slam Flying Tiger Series. Craig Bushey, the 2002 Airborne Raceway Flying Tiger champion leads Joe Becker in the series, 256-234. The Allen Lumber Street Stocks will also be in action.

Post time Sunday is 1:30 pm. Gates open at 10 am. Admission is $18/adults, $5/children (6-12). Thunder Road is located atop Quarry Hill in Barre, 3/4 mile from the intersection of Rte 14 and Quarry Street. For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit
