Tim Campbell, Matt Potter Win Thrillers On Thunder Road Undercard
For Immediate Release TR56-090202
Barre, VT - - Tim Campbell drove his first career NAPA Flying Tiger Sportsman win Saturday at Thunder Road just ahead of a near dead-heat for second between runner-up Roger Brown and Reno Gervais. Campbell and Gervais were racing inches apart with six laps left when they met up with double-wide lapped traffic that was bumping and grinding amongst themselves. Campbell picked a lane of sorts and managed to carom through and continue on at full throttle. Gervais didn't fare as well, and was finally caught, barely by Brown, who used the high lane to earn second. Scott Payea was a strong fourth, three car lengths back. Jimmy Young got home fifth.
Joe Steffen held onto the NAPA Flying Tiger point lead with a sixth place finish. Chip Grenier, Joe Becker, Fred Dezan and Ray Stearns placed 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. Doug Murphy, second in points at the outset, got into the main event via the "B" feature, finished 14th and now sits third in points at 901. Steffen unofficially leads the new runner-up, Reno Gervais (922-904).
The Tiger heats were won by Bill Sawyer, Brian Delphia, Chip Grenier and Eric Pembroke.
For the second race in a row, the Allen Lumber Street Stock feature was the Matt Potter-Justin St Louis show. St Louis was in command until the final circuit, only to have Potter get up the outside in time to record his third win of the year. The pair turned some great close-quarters laps along the way, while Jeff French held off David Allen for third. Travis Paquet raced home fifth, for his first top-5 of the season. Positions 6-10 went to Brendan Moodie Jr, Tim Spooner, Ryan Nolin, Jamie Rabideau and Steve McCloud.
Matt Potter overtook Justin St Louis on the final lap to win the Allen Lumber Street Stock feature. Jeff French, point leader David Allen and Travis Paquet were 3rd, 4th and 5th.
