Leighton Seeks To Boost Busch North Title Bid By Making History At Thunder Road
For Immediate Release TR50-081502
Barre, VT - - Two-time Busch North NASCAR Series champion Brad Leighton, hopes to improve his chances for a third title by becoming the first ever two-time winner of the True Value 150 at Thunder Road Saturday, August 31.
Leighton is the only three-time winner in the 2002 Busch North Series. On the eve of the Series' first-ever appearance at Adirondack Speedway, he trailed point leader Matt Kobyluck by a single point, 1784-1783. Andy Santerre holds down third place at 1726, 14 points ahead of fourth-place Dale Shaw.
Leighton and his Grizco Racing team have roots at the "Nation's Site of Excitement", where he won the 2000 True Value 150 and raced successfully as an ACT competitor. Crew chief Brian Latuch and crew members Karl Osha, and Kevin Scott, were attending races at Thunder Road at an early age. "If we can come out of Thunder Road with a win, it would be doubly sweet, because we've got a shot at another championship, and no one has been able to win two Busch races there," says Latuch.
Shaw is one of five previous winners of the Thunder Road True Value 150, having narrowly edged Leighton in 1999. Thunder Road favorite Dave Dion was last year's winner. Other past True Value 150 champions are Tracy Gordon (1998) and Kip Stockwell (1997). Stockwell scored a story book upset in the 1997 inaugural, when he held off Dion to take the checkers in his first ever Busch North Series race.
Reserved seats for the 6th annual Busch North NASCAR True Value 150 may be ordered by phone, (802-244-6963) or purchased at Thunder Road on Thursday, August 22, during the VT State Employees Credit Union regular season event.
