Spaulding High Senior Adam Pierson Plans Thunder Road Flying Tiger Rookie Bid
For Immediate Release TR10-031902
Barre, VT - - Eighteen year-old Adam Pierson, a Spaulding High School senior and stock car
racer from East Corinth, VT, is one of seven NAPA Flying Tiger Rookie of the Year candidates
preparing for Thunder Road's 43rd season opener Sunday, May 5. Pierson already has two years of
driving experience, but it has been at regional dirt tracks, Bear Ridge and Canaan USA.
"Adam raced at Thunder Road on Milk Bowl weekend last year," reports his father Gene
Pierson, a twenty-year dirt track veteran. "He enjoyed it and he did pretty well. Asphalt racing requires
more patience than dirt tracks do," says the elder Pierson. "Adam has driven a Sportsman coupe at
Bear Ridge and an open wheel modified at Canaan. You throw the car sideways and muscle your way
around there, but if you break loose at Thunder Road, you're in trouble."
Pierson plans to race Thursday nights during Thunder Road's summer schedule, followed by
Friday nights at Bear Ridge and Saturdays at Canaan. "We bought a Tiger car from my uncle Ed
Patterson and got some seat time at the Milk Bowl,'' Pierson said. "I have GP's Auto Service in East
Corinth and Jerry Dudley's Auto Connection of East Barre as sponsors, and there may be more soon."
Pierson will be joined on the Barre high banked quarter-mile by fellow NAPA Flying Tiger rookies
Marc Jones of Georgia, VT, Williamstown's Justin Hart, Fred Dezan of Barre, Ron Morrill of Richmond
Terry Pearce Jr of Middlesex and former Airborne Raceway Street Stock ace Chris Cayea of Mooers
Thunder Road's season opener is headlined by the Merchants Bank Freedom Lynx 150, event
number two on the 2002 ACT Dodge Tour. The ACT Late Model series opens at Star Speedway in
Epping, NH Saturday, April 13 for the New England Dodge Dealers 100.
Thunder Road will host two additional ACT Dodge Tour events, the 31st Mekkelsen RV
Memorial Day Classic Sunday, May 26, and the Labor Day Classic Saturday, August 31. The NAPA
Flying Tigers are scheduled for a 100-lap "Grand Slam" Series race at Thunder Road on Parts Plus
Night September 8.
The ACT Dodge Tour's Labor Day Classic is part of a Thunder Road doubleheader featuring the
Busch North NASCAR Series True Value 150. Schedule and ticket information are available at the
Thunder Road office, 7 Stowe Street, Waterbury, VT (802) 244-6963 or at thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
