Thompson: PASS Pro Stock Showdown on tap
Racers from five states and the Canadian Maritimes will converge on Thompson International Speedway this weekend for the inaugural running of the Pro All Stars- sanctioned Thompson Octoberfest 200, and you can count on the cream of the crop to be on hand for the $35,000.00 plus all star showdown.
Over sixty of the regions premiere full fendered racers are expected to be on hand and the entry list already reads like a who’s who of Pro Stock racing. Both 2002 and 2001 PASS champions Ben Rowe and Sam Sessions have filed entries, as have Larry Gelinas, Russ Hersey, Scott Mulkern, Kenny Wright and Bill Rodgers. Short track legend Mike Rowe will definitely be in the field by virtue of his victory in the PASS event at Oxford Plains on September 22nd that earned the Turner Maine ace a guaranteed starting position in the 200. PASS regular Gerry “GeGe” Gravel has a great deal of Thompson experience and should be a threat and the same goes for veteran pro stock campaigner Jim McCallum. Steve Knowlton, Joe Squelia, Scott Robbins, Andy Shaw and a host of Canadians led by Mike MacKenzie and Dave Gorveatt will try to take the $6,000.00 winners’ share of the purse north with them at the end of the day.
The southern Pro Stock contingent is equally well represented with drivers like Dick Houlihan, Rick Martin, Mike O’Sullivan and Chuck Docharty slated to compete. New Yorkers Anthony Dumonte and Glenn Logan Jr. have filed entries as have open wheelers Tom Baldwin and Chris Perley. Norm Wrenn earned guaranteed starter status by virtue of his victory in Thompson’s own PASS Octoberfest 200 qualifier. Dennis Maxfield, Geroge Bessette, Joe Lamay and Jim Banfield will all be looking to race their way into the 40 car all star field.
A 100 lap $3,000.00 to win Late Model feature and a $1,500.00 to win 50 lap Limited Sportsman/Street Stock feature will round out this full-fendered extravaganza. Rules for these two big open competition-style events may be obtained from the Thompson Speedway office by calling (860) 923-2280.
Thompson will host an open practice session for all three divisions on Friday October fourth from noon until 9 PM. Pit gates for the PASS Octoberfest 200 open Saturday October 5th at 9 AM with practice sessions getting underway at 10 AM. PASS time trials will take to the speedway at 3 PM.
