"RICKY MORSE WINS RACE OF A LIFETIME AT OPS"

OXFORD, ME---Ricky Morse drove the race of his career Saturday night to win the Mainely Action Sports Late Model Stock Car main event and with that career breakthrough he vaulted himself into the 29th annual True Value 250. Mike Stickney led the early going, then gave way to Frank Snow on lap three. A restart on lap 15 proved no problem for the fast running Snow, but the anxious moment occurred on lap 22 when Al Griffin crashed hard off turn four. Griffin was dazed for several minutes as rescue workers attended to him. Griffin took the mandatory ride to the local hospital for a precautionary check up as the action resumed. Chris Bowie was second and challenging Snow when they came together and the end result was a new leader officially on lap 30. Ricky Rolfe used the same maneuver last year to go to the famed 250 lap race, but this time he was no match for Morse who kept his five car length lead though out the final 20 laps. Rolfe was second without ever testing the second year OPS driver. Terry Merrill was elevated to third when Corey Morgan failed to pass the post race weight check. Travis Adams and Ron Henry rounded out the top five.

Kenny Harrison got the break he needed on the lap on the lap 13 restart and simply out raced leader Steve Bennett Jr. to turn one to win his third 25 lap Limited Sportsman race of the year. Shane Green, the series point leader, then took the same route and came out second as the leader faded back to fourth in the shakeup of the top positions. Dana Grover ran third at the end, with George White Jr. getting fifth for his best run of the 2002 campaign.

Skip Tripp drove to victory lane for the first time in his short career as a Strictly Stock division driver. After a sucessful run a couple of years ago in Mini Stock, Tripp made his 250 weekend complete with the win. Guy Childs drove home second and Scott Belskis brought his Ford Thunderbird across the line third. Brian Dennison and Jeff Merrill rounded out the top five in the first of the two 20 division main events. In the second go round, reserved for the higher point standings entries Darryl Cook made a bold move on lap on lap 13. He raced through a cloud of smoke that had slowed race leader Sumner Sessions for a moment and that single act gave him his second win of the year. Jon Brill and Sessions were next across the line officially as Larry Emerson's runner up finish was disallowed at the post race Inspection Station. Billy Childs Jr. and his cross town rival Steve Page ran fourth and fifth.

Bill Mooney scored his second win of the year in the Mini Stock division win a non stop and wire to wire drive. Wayne Parkin was second after moving up in the closing laps with Bill Thibeault following for third. Ralph Felker and Jeff Moon rounded out the top five.
