"OXFORD PLAINS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION READY FOR ANOTHER FUND RAISING YEAR"

OXFORD, ME---The Oxford Plains Speedway Charitable Foundation awarded more than $22,000 in grants to nine western Maine organizations in 2001 and now kicks off its second year of operation and fund raising. The major fund raising effort is through the sale of 50/50 tickets at the famed 3/8-mile asphalt oval. Speedway owner Bill Ryan said that last years grants were awarded to Youth Outreach Ministries for their HIS Place facility, the regional Right Start Christmas for Kids program and the Elder Ride Program that is administered by Community Concepts. Also receiving grants were Galilee House, which is a shelter for homeless mothers, the Maine Children's Cancer Program and the Youth Alternatives sponsored Substance Abuse Program. In the Root Cellar in Portland, the Oxford Police Department and the Norway Fire Department Thermal Imager fund received full and equal grants. The foundation's Board of Directors awards the grants. All grants are awarded to non-profit agencies and municipal government service departments.

"Any non profit agency or municipal government service department is urged to write a request for consideration letter in the early fall of this year and send it to the Oxford Plains Speedway Charitable Foundation at P. O. Box 208, Oxford, Maine 04270-0208," added Ryan. "The Board of Directors will review the letters and make their determinations in the later part of the year."
