"The Silver Fox" Looks to Carry Momentum in Extra Distance Race at
Claremont, NH (June 15, 2002): Walt "The Silver Fox" Harris, 47, of
Claremont, NH looks to Saturday night's Mini Stock 30-lap extra distance
race as a launch pad into the season's second half. With six races
complete at Claremont Speedway this season, Harris has turned in five
consecutive top three finishes.
During the first week of racing, Harris was leading the field and looked
to be on his way to a win when the motor went in the Sugar Hill
Speedway-sponsored Ford Mustang. But, since then, Harris has been the
most consistent driver in the division. In the past five weeks, Harris
has captured his second career win and looks on track to repeat his
victory lane visits.
Harris is currently second in points. There is an eight-point margin to
current leader John Ross Jr. Last week, Harris battled with Ross for the
win, but came up just a bit short after starting sixth in the feature.
Harris and the CHS Motorsports team have also focused a great deal of
emphasis on the Racing Against Cancer™ program. The team brought the
program to Claremont Speedway this season and has been hard at work
signing up new members and promoting the RAC Team's goals and efforts at
promotional appearances as well as trackside. As of June 8th, the fans
and participants at Claremont Speedway have raised more than $2200 for
Racing Against Cancer™. Claremont Speedway will host a Racing Against
Cancer™ night on July 6th.
CHS Motorsports also consists of Late Model Rookie of the Year contender
Travis Cass. Cass currently leads the ROTY points race at Claremont and
has two top ten finishes to his credit.
