Annual Car Show Kicks of Claremont Speedway Season

Claremont, NH (April 8, 2002): While Claremont competitors have been
showing off their cars throughout the Connecticut River Valley since the
beginning of March, this Saturday’s Annual Car Show will be the biggest
display of the year. On average, 60 – 80 competitors come to the car
show hosted by Fleury’s Auto & Truck Sales on Rte. 103 in Newport, NH.

Cars from all divisions will be represented and will compete for Best of
Show Awards plus giveaways such as tires & fuel. Race fans can also get
in on the giveaways this year. Fleury’s Auto & Truck Sales has been
displaying a car around the area for the last few weeks and will raffle
the car off the day of the show. All proceeds of the raffle will be
distributed to a few lucky competitors that attend the show with their

From 10:00AM to 3:00PM on Saturday April 13th race fans can visit the
car show and meet the stars of Claremont Speedway, grab lunch for the
family, and learn more about all of the exciting developments from the
off season.

On Sunday April 14th, Claremont Speedway will be having a volunteer
workday at the track. Though the winter was not as brutal as some to the
racetrack, the roller coaster weather over the past few weeks has made
it difficult to get many tasks completed. The track would like to extend
an invitation to competitors, crewmembers and fans that would like to
participate in prepping the track for the upcoming season to stop by the
track at 8:00 on Sunday. “We are putting in place a new sound system,
new concrete stairs between the grandstands, and addressing several
other physical improvements on the workday,” stated owner Sherrie

The grills will be fired up for the day and those that are able to
volunteer in any way will be provided lunch. “We will begin working at
8:00AM and hope to finish up around 5 o’clock,” stated Fleury-Lanou. The
more volunteers that arrive, whether you can offer a skill such as
painting or welding or as a general laborer, the quicker the
improvements will be completed. A task list has been made and there are
a number of tools needed to complete these tasks. Shovels, ladders,
paint guns, welders, and hammers are just a partial list of tools that
will help get the job done. Volunteers are encouraged to call the track,
603-543-3160, or log on to for more
information about this weekend’s activities.

The capital improvements are just a portion of the excitement stirring
around the 2002 season. An updated schedule was released last week and
it is full of extra distance races and special events. There will be
giveaways to kids and adults all season long from bicycles to CASH. And,
a kid’s club is coming up so speed. Catch your first glimpse of the cars
and stars at speed at a Practice Day set for April 20th. Grandstand
entrance is FREE and the practice starts at Noon.
