Night of the Dragon At Star Speedway ACT Dodge Tour 100

For Immediate Release ACT52-072802

Epping, NH - - Scott Dragon took the lead on lap 20 of the ACT Dodge Tour Mid-Summer 100 Saturday night at Star Speedway and never gave it up despite several restarts and multiple challenges, most often from his cousin Brent Dragon. It was the first career ACT victory for The 28 year-old Milton, VT driver scored his first ever ACT victory by two car lengths. Ryan Moore of Scarborough, Me worked runner-up Brent Dragon hard on the outside before settling for third. Dwayne Lanphear, who started 23rd in the 26-car field, finished fourth, three feet ahead of the fast-closing Eric Williams.

Several cars rose and fell through the ranks as the race alternated between exciting side-by-side racing and bruising contact. Among the contenders at the front were Mike Bruno, Todd Stone, Buzzie Bezanson, Patrick Laperle and Jamie Fisher. Bezanson, equally strong on the outside or in the low lane, was mounting a challenge for second when his hood flew up and blocked his view. When he checked up, the chain reaction contact brought Laperle and point leader Phil Scott together, resulting in the ninth caution on lap 68. Stone began that restart on the inside of the second row alongside Jamie Fisher, but soon began to drop off the pace, just as Moore and Lanphear were gaining ground. Moore eventually clawed his way back to third place, with his third march from the back.

Scott Dragon, meanwhile, had the field covered in the Mansfield Heliflight Chevrolet No. 70, and he stayed safely at the point despite the lapped traffic. " I discovered on one of the early restarts that my car went a lot better on the outside, so whenever I could, I'd move up the track," said Dragon. "This was the best car I've ever had. I know Brent would have been happy to beat me if he could, but I had the better car tonight."

ACT point leader Phil Scott, from 24th, broke into the top ten at the halfway mark, endured the turn three tangle with Laperle, then pitted and rallied once more, to finish eighth. Scott now leads his closest rivals, Dwayne Lanphear and Eric Williams, 902-(807-806), with five races remaining.

Positions 6-10 went, in order, to Jamie Fisher, Fred LaGoy, Scott, Chad Wheeler and Dave Wilcox. Steve Miller used the outside lane to edge Dave Pembroke and Scott Dragon in the bonus points semi-feature. Scott, Buzzie Bezanson and Pete Fecteau won the qualifying heats.

The ACT Dodge Tour moves to Oxford Plains Speedway this Saturday, August 3 for the New England Dodge Dealers 100.
