T-Road Home Cooking Sunday, Then The Highway For Local ACT Drivers
For Immediate Release TR16-052102
Barre, VT - - Thunder Road Late Model regulars Cris Michaud, Dave Pembroke and Cooper MacRitchie are among the ACT Dodge Tour competitors looking to take full advantage of their ability to get around the Barre high banks at this Sunday's 31st Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic.
Sunday's event is the last ACT Dodge Tour appearance at "The Nation's Site of Excitement", until the Busch North NASCAR Series/ACT doubleheader Labor Day weekend (Sat 8/31).
Michaud, the defending Thunder Road Late Model Champion, MacRitchie the 2001 Thunder Road Rookie of the Year, and Pembroke, sixth in points and a feature-winner a year ago, are looking for a boost to their 2002 season before heading off for less familiar territory.
Michaud will be out to repeat his winning performance in last year's Memorial Day Classic which propelled him into ACT's top-5 to stay. Pembroke was a force at Thunder Road opening day before a rear end leak dropped him out of contention. MacRitchie says he's not discouraged even though, "when there's trouble this year, I come along. The car was as fast at Airborne (Spring Green 100) as its been anywhere. We're going to have a good finish soon."
Following Sunday's event, the ACT Dodge Tour has five races in six weeks on tap. Last week's postponed New England Dodge Dealers 100 at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH goes Saturday, June 1, followed by stops at White Mountain June 8, Canaan USA Speedway June 23 and Circuit-Ste Croix (Que) June 29.
The NAPA Flying Tigers and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will also be in action Sunday. More than 130 race cars are expected to compete. Post time is 1:30 pm. Gates open at 10 am. Thunder Road is located on Quarry Hill in Barre. For additional information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
