Impressive First ACT Win For McGrath At Airborne

For Immediate Release AR18-051302

Plattsburgh, NY - - Jacob McGrath won the Ehler's RV Spring Green 100 on Saturday at Airborne raceway with a flawless performance that landed him his first ACT Late Model career victory.

The third-year driver from Mendon, VT started fourth in the 30-car field, took the lead on lap nine and went unmatched the rest of the way.

McGrath survived two close calls with 10 laps to go before becoming the third different winner in three ACT Dodge Tour events this season. Contact with the Eric Chase machine in lapped traffic caused McGrath to check up, allowing runner-up Todd Stone to slip past him. The resultant chain reaction flipped Cooper MacRitchie over and off the racing surface and the caution flag came out.

McGrath and Stone assumed the front row on the restart and the pair traded paint through turns one and two before McGrath drew out to a four car-length advantage.

"I was getting excited," McGrath admitted. "I knew I had a car capable of winning the race, but the inside lane was getting slick. I just hung and made sure I didn't let Todd or Jamie Fisher (third place) get underneath me."

It was the third straight top-5 finish for Stone, who journeyed from 22nd to claim second. "Jacob drove a great race," Stone said. "I thought I might be able to get around him in lapped traffic, but a couple of times when I got up to him the yellow came out and it never worked out. I'm happy with what I got though."

Forty late Models were in attendance vying for 30 starting spots. Dwayne Lanphear and Phil Scott, from 23rd finished fourth and fifth. Spots 6-10 went to Scott Dragon, Brent Dragon, Jean-Paul Cyr, Bill Fountain and Patrick Laperle. Laperle's tenth place effort, combined with a second in his heat race and 6th in the semi-feature kept him atop the ACT point standings. Laperle has a 17-point advantage over Scott (286-269).

Veteran Steve Miller won his heat and the semi-feature and was a force in the main event, until spinning out of contention on lap 88 and settling for 21st. Mike Bruno, Eric Williams and Pete Fecteau were also heat winners.

The ACT Dodge Tour makes its first ever appearance at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH this Saturday, May 18 for the New England Dodge Dealers 100 at 5:30 pm.
